Q. When giving you the measurements,
which comes first, the width or the length?
A. The width always comes first, followed by how long the window
is. For further questions on measuring please <E-mail>
or <call
us>.
Q. Are fuax wood blinds better than real wood blinds?
A. Usually we do not use the vinyl fuax wood blinds in areas like
dining rooms, living rooms or under fabric draperies where an
equal level of richness or quality is called for. This depends
on many factors such as budgetary dictates and intended use of
the spaces involved where real stained hardwood could enrich the
area. Using sandblasted vanes and upgraded valances, fuax woods
can be applied in many areas effectively and they cost less.
As for durability or length of use they are about equal, with
vinyl being better where there is moisture.
Q. How do you clean “Duettes”, or any cellular honeycomb
shade?
A. You use ¼ cup of ‘Woolite” in 4" of
warm water. This means removing the shade and placing it in the
bathtub to soak. You can use a soft brush on spots before rinsing
twice with clear water and laying the shade out flat on a towel
to dry. When the shade is re-installed it must be drawn up tight
at the top and left for the fabric to regain its memory before
regular use.
Q. Do you charge to come out?
A. No, we do not charge to come to your home or office. We offer
a relaxed in home shopping experience that includes seeing samples
and a free estimate.
Q. Should we paint first, before window
coverings?
A. It's best if you can, but with bracketed treatments
such as shades
and blinds you can just pop them out of the brackets for painting.
With drapes on rings you can just slide them off the rod. Even
with shutters you can just pull the hinge pins and remove the
panels for masking and painting. If you're real busy, you can
just paint later.
Q. Are vinyl shutters easier to clean?
A. For interior spaces we use the same feather dusters
and damp cloth for both hardwood and PVC shutters.
Q. Are vinyl shutters as good as wood.
A. In every day residential use basswood shutters
will last about twice as long as vinyl. Still, next to a wet tub
or shower area use vinyl.
Q.What are Polywood Shutters?
A.They are made of solid vinyl, instead of the usual
hollow louvers called "vinyl shutters". Poly signifies
vinyl, wood means they look like real wood shutters. We do not
use or recommend "Composites" of plastic and wood, or
"fibre board".
Q. Why use Polywood instead of Vinyl Shutters?
A. For about the same price you get a more durable
product that looks like a real wood shutter and includes all the
benifits of hollow vinyl.
Q. How does Polywood's cost compare with real
Basswood Shutters?
A.Most of the extra features that can be added to
wood shutters cost more : These same extras come with Polywood
at no added cost. So, at first glance a price difference of $3.00
per square foot does not reveal that the extra features included
would be $7.00 extra p.s.f. in wood, equalling a $10.00 p.s.f.
real cost difference on the job.
Q. How does the Quality compare between Basswood
& the Faux Woods?
A. When you add the quality of today's paints and
finishes to the strength, hardness and uniform surface texture
of Basswood, that can be installed at garden tubs and kitchen
sinks, nothing can claim superiority.
However, economy and use sometimes result in the application of
polywood or vinyl.
