Q. When giving you the measurements, which comes first, the width or the length?

A. The width always comes first, followed by how long the window is. For further questions on measuring please <E-mail> or <call us>.

Q. Are faux wood blinds better than real wood blinds?
A. Today's new premium finishes in faux wood blinds are actually better than wood blinds. They do not have the problems of wood vanes, are easier to clean and last longer. Using sandblasted vanes and upgraded valances, fuax woods can be applied in many areas effectively and they cost less, with faux wood being better where there is moisture.

Q. How do you clean “Duettes”, or any cellular honeycomb shade?

A. You use ¼ cup of Woolite in 4" of warm water. This means removing the shade and placing it in the bathtub to soak. You can use a soft brush on spots before rinsing twice with clear water and laying the shade out flat on a towel to dry. When the shade is re-installed it must be drawn up tight at the top and left for the fabric to regain its memory before regular use.

Q. Do you charge to come out?

A. No, we do not charge to come to your home or office. We offer a relaxed in home shopping experience that includes seeing samples and a free estimate.

Q. Should we paint first, before window coverings?

A. It's best if you can, but with bracketed treatments such as shades
and blinds you can just pop them out of the brackets for painting. With drapes on rings you can just slide them off the rod. Even with shutters you can just pull the hinge pins and remove the panels for masking and painting. If you're real busy, you can just paint later.

Q. Are polycore shutters easier to clean?

A. For interior spaces we use the same feather dusters and damp cloth for both hardwood and polycore shutters.

Q. Are Polycore shutters as good as wood.

A. In every day residential use basswood shutters will last longer than poly-products. Even next to a wet tub or shower area the new finishes on wood shutters can safely be installed.

Q.What are Polywood Shutters?

A.They are made of solid vinyl, instead of the usual hollow louvers called "vinyl shutters". Poly signifies vinyl, wood means they look like real wood shutters. We do not use or recommend "Composites" of plastic and wood, or "fibre board". The very best is the Polycore coextruded with aluminum; see the Polycore shutter link on the homepage.

.

Q. How does Polycore's cost compare with real Basswood Shutters?

A.Most of the extra features that can be added to wood shutters are included with Discount Shutters basswood shutters: These same extras do not come free with Polywood at no added cost. So, a price difference of only $2.00 or $3.00 per square foot does not reveal that if the extra features were included polywood can be equal in $ per square ft. real cost on the job.

Q. How does the Quality compare between Basswood & the Faux Woods?

A. When you add the quality of today's paints and finishes to the strength, hardness and uniform surface texture of Basswood, that can be installed at garden tubs and kitchen sinks, nothing can claim superiority. See the basswood shutter link on the homepage.
However, economy and use sometimes result in the application of polycore shutters.
